New flights landing in ILM, but passenger numbers not improving

WILMINGTON, NC (StarNewsOnline) — Despite adding several new flights, Wilmington International Airport is still fighting to remain competitive.

The airport director, Julie Wilsey, said American/U.S. Airways and Delta have both cut many regional jets that typically serve markets like Wilmington due to costs, and they have seen a drop in passenger numbers over the last two years.

Wilsey said she hopes to improve these numbers by adding direct flights to more in-demand locations.
