WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY) – In the opening round of the NCHSAA baseball playoffs, New Hanover picked up a 7-2 home win over Chapel Hill on Tueday in a battle between 16 and 17 seeds.

The Tigers turned a throwing error into a run in the top of the 1st. In the bottom of the frame, Camden Croom managed to go from first to third after the visitors committed their own throwing error trying to pick him off. Alder Stumpf then singled to send Croom home to even the scoring.

The Wildcats added another in the 2nd when Nick Marren’s line drive to left brought Vincent Civelli home from third.

New Hanover will next play on Friday. That will take place on the road against top-seeded D.H. Conley.
