New Hanover Board of Elections formalizes new director hire

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The interim tag has been removed from New Hanover County’s new elections director.

Today the Board of Elections voted 2-1 to officially make Derek Bowens the elections director and raise his annual salary from $68,256 to $70,000. Tannis Nelson was the only vote against the move.

The NC Board of Elections approved Bowens’s appointment to the post earlier this month. He succeeds Marvin McFadyen, who the New Hanover County Board of Elections fired in January.
