New Hanover Co. residents clean up after possible tornado

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) –  Strong winds from Tropical Storm Hermine left damage in many yards in the Myrtle Grove area of New Hanover County.

One resident said the heavy winds only lasted about ten minutes but left behind a trail of damage.

Residents who live along off Masonboro Loop Road shared photos of entire fence leveled by winds.  Over on Roseman Road, yards were covered with large tree branches.

Jason Hammond lives in the area.  He said the wind was so strong it sounded like hail was hitting the sides of his home.

He says furniture and his son’s bike were blown across the front yard.

“It was definitely the most chaotic weather I’ve ever seen since I was a little kid with Hurricane Diana, ” said Hammond.

Hammond says neighbors immediately began cleaning up their yards once that weather cleared a bit.
