New Hanover Co. Schools break ground on new school

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — New Hanover County Schools are celebrating a new addition.

Today the school board and county commission broke ground on the new Porters Neck elementary school. The school is on Edgewater Club Road and should be finished by February of 2017.

County Superintendent Tim Markley said this shows they are making progress with the school bond that was passed last year.

“This is one of those fun days, ’cause we put a lot of work into getting the bond passed and we’ve done some smaller projects sort of behind the scenes, but this will be the first visible evidence of our bond campaign and we are excited about this,” Markley said.

Students from Blair elementary were also there for the groundbreaking today.

Markley said the school is set to open in 2017 and will be used by Blair Elementary school Students until their new school is built.
