New Hanover Co. tax chief to delay retirement

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — New Hanover County’s top tax man is staying on the job a little longer than he planned.

The county announced this morning that Roger Kelley will delay his retirement and stay in his post as tax administrator and tax collector until Feb. 1, 2016. Kelley was supposed to retire at the end of September.

“While New Hanover County is in the midst of a full ‘measure and list’ property revaluation, it is essential to have someone with Roger’s breadth and depth of experience at the helm,” New Hanover County Manager Chris Coudriet said in a statement.

County Commissioner appointed Kelley to tax administrator in August 2008. He started working for New Hanover County in 2004 as revaluation coordinator.

A search for Kelley’s replacement continues.
