New Hanover Community Endowment appoints new president and CEO

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The New Hanover Community Endowment has appointed Dan Winslow as its new president and CEO following a nationwide search.
Winslow, a veteran nonprofit executive with a career spanning business, legal, legislative, and nonprofit sectors, will assume his role on October 1, 2024.
According to a news release, the executive search was conducted by moss+ross, a consulting firm specializing in strengthening North Carolina nonprofits.
“The enthusiasm nationwide to lead our team was evident in the number of strong applications we received for this position,” said Board Vice Chair Shannon Winslow, who chaired the search committee. “Dan is the best person to take the reins and lead this organization toward transformational change in our community, now and into the future.”
Dan Winslow, who shares a last name with Shannon Winslow but is not related, currently serves as the president and CEO of the New England Legal Foundation in Boston. He is recognized for his leadership in advancing free enterprise, property rights, and inclusive economic growth. Winslow also founded the Equalizer Institute, a free legal clinic for underrepresented entrepreneurs, set to launch in 2025.
“I’m excited to watch the team continue to roll out this proof of concept for a national model of hope and opportunity,” said Dan Winslow, expressing his enthusiasm for the institute’s mission.
Bill Cameron, Chair of the NHCE Board, expressed confidence in Winslow’s ability to lead the organization.
“His diverse experience will be invaluable in our efforts to invest in the community and serve our neighbors,” Cameron said.
Winslow emphasized his commitment to addressing the root causes of issues affecting the quality of life in New Hanover County.
“NHCE can be a catalyst for change,” he said. “I am eager to learn more about the nonprofit and community organizations we can lift up through our work.”
In the interim, Lakesha McDay, NHCE’s executive vice president of programs and operations, will continue to oversee daily operations until Winslow’s official start on October 1st.
Winslow will be introduced during a news conference on Monday afternoon. WWAY will have more tonight starting at 5pm.
