New Hanover Community Endowment receives additional $12.8M from hospital sale
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The New Hanover Community Endowment has received a $12.8 million transfer from NHW Healthcare, Inc., as part of the ongoing wind-down process following the sale of New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
The funds, initially reserved for liabilities related to the hospital’s sale, are now being directed to the endowment as those obligations are resolved, New Hanover County officials announced.
This latest transfer brings the total amount allocated to the endowment to approximately $1.35 billion.
“The scale of this investment in our community is hard to overstate,” New Hanover County Board of Commissioners Chair Bill Rivenbark said in a statement. “This investment is dedicated to strengthening our county, both now and for future generations, and is an extraordinary legacy. This is exactly what the sale was meant to achieve – a lasting benefit that will continue to serve our residents in meaningful ways.”
