New Hanover County Board of Education member changes political party

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, N.C. (WWAY) — David Perry, a member of the New Hanover County Board of Education, has announced he is switching political parties.
Perry, formerly a Republican, will now once again represent the Libertarian Party.
Perry won election to the Board of Education in 2024 as a member of the Republican Party.
Perry made this announcement Tuesday before the New Hanover County Board of Education regularly scheduled meeting.
In a Facebook post shared Wednesday morning, Perry said “I have come to believe over the last year that the corrupt leadership and establishment of the Republican Party has broken its promises to We the People, and is sending our country in a dangerous direction.”
Perry also said, “I want to reiterate that my beef is not with the many great grassroots Republicans who were instrumental in getting me elected. You guys are patriots and you have my promise that I will continue to stand for the issues that I campaigned on.”
According to Perry’s website, he was formerly a member of the Libertarian Party, but returned to the Republican Party in 2019, and became active in the Republican Liberty Caucus.
