New Hanover County Commissioners authorizes C-Pace program
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — New Hanover County Commissioners have unanimously approved a resolution to adopt a new program focused on conservation.
The resolution authorizes the county to participate in North Carolina’s Commercial Property Assessed Captial Expenditure program, also known as C-PACE.
The program will allow commercial property owners to receive long-term funding to improve energy efficiency, water conservation, and other sustainability-focused improvements.
The program does not use money from New Hanover County taxpayers.
Commissioner Dane Scalise said seeing the C-PACE program receive so much support is great.
“Everybody wants to have a healthy environment, everybody wants to do what they can to contribute to a healthy environment,” Scalise said. “One of the reasons that I like the C-Pace program is that it ultimately looks to the private sector to help enhance some of these sustainability offerings in commercial buildings.”
Wilmington City Council also heard more about the C-PACE Program during an agenda briefing Monday morning. Still, the matter is not currently listed as an agenda item for the council’s meeting on Tuesday night.
