New Hanover County Commissioners take the oaths for office
"May God's blessings be upon you. May you lead your office with dignity and integrity and always keep the people first."
NEW HANOVER COUNTY (WWAY) — New Hanover County Commissioners elected — or re-elected — last month were officially sworn in Monday afternoon.
Republicans Bill Rivenbark and Dane Scalise and Democrat Stephanie Walker took their respective oaths of office for their four-year terms.
Rivenbark will continue serving as the Board’s Chair and Commissioner Leann Pierce will continue as Vice-Chair. A special recognition was given to Jonathan Barfield Jr. for his years of service to the board, after losing his re-election bid.
“To Rob Zapple, Dane Scalise, Bill Rivenbark, Lynn Pierce, to Commissioner Stephanie Walker, may God’s blessings be upon you. May you lead your office with dignity and integrity and always keep the people first,” Barfield said.
“I did run on a lot of things that I felt were important to the community. So, I look forward to taking the time to get to know my role and the folks that I’m working with,” Walker said.
Having previously served on the New Hanover County School Board, Walker says she will always advocate for public schools and make their needs a priority.
