New Hanover County deputy terminated following internal investigation

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A New Hanover County Sheriff’s deputy has been terminated following an internal affairs investigation, according to a disciplinary action charge sheet.

The document, dated Feb. 11, 2026, identifies the deputy as Dennis L. McCall.

According to the charge sheet, the investigation determined that McCall’s actions between September of 2025 and Feb of 2026 violated multiple Sheriff’s Office Standard Operating Policies.

The listed violations include personal conduct, conduct unbecoming or improper conduct, abuse of position, and misuse of agency equipment or resources.

The disciplinary action issued was termination.

The New Hanover County District Attorney’s Office confirms it has requested the State Bureau of Investigation to also look into the McCall’s conduct.
