Firefighters: Woman, parakeet safe after fire sparks at home

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — New Hanover County firefighters said no one was hurt in a fire that sparked while residents were inside Monday night.

Fire crews said the call came in just after 7 p.m. after neighbors spotted smoke coming from a home in the 8400 block of Bald Eagle Lane. That’s where they said two adults were inside before they were aware of the fire.

Firefighters said when a man who lives there walked outside and noticed the smoke, he then ran back inside to get his wife and parakeet out.

They said both New Hanover and Pender County firefighters responded to the scene. Firefighters said the cause of the fire was electrical.

Fire crews said no one was hurt in the fire. Heat and smoke damaged the main part of the house.
