New Hanover County investigates two missing persons amid Savannah Guthrie spotlight
NEW HANOVER COUNTY (WWAY) — While the disappearance of Savannah Guthrie’s mother has garnered national attention, the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office is currently working two missing person cases reported just this morning.
Gagian “Gage” Corey was last seen on January 30th, and John Shivar was last seen on December 8th.
This week, Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance received significant attention due to unusual circumstances, as well as the prominence of her daughter — Savannah Guthrie — who is a well-known figure on a national morning TV broadcast.
But most missing person cases don’t attract this level of attention or remain in the headlines very long — if at all.
Lieutenant Brewer with the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office says every case they receive is treated with the same level of seriousness, and that the first step in locating someone is to notify law enforcement as soon as possible.
“If you have a missing person, call 911. That’s going to get the quickest response, and that’ll give us a quicker response to get more information and hopefully find that person much faster,” said Brewer.
Guthrie’s, Shivar’s, and Corey’s cases are all open and are being actively investigated at this time.
