New Hanover County man found guilty of sexually assaulting woman in 2020

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A jury has found a New Hanover County man guilty in a sexual assault case.
Marx Michael Andrzejewski, Sr., 50, will spend a minimum of 15 years in prison for two counts of second degree sexual offense.
On July 4, 2020, the 25-year-old victim and her 22-month-son were invited to spend the night for a July 4th gathering by her co-worker, the defendant’s wife.
While at their apartment, Andrzejewski drugged the victim and sexually assaulted her as she lay in the guest bedroom with her child. Andrzejewski told investigators that he had stayed for two hours in the guest bedroom with the victim and her toddler because the victim was so impaired he felt he should not leave her alone.
According to a news release, the victim had memories of being assaulted during the night while she felt paralyzed and disoriented.
The following day, the victim was treated at New Hanover Regional Medical Center Emergency Department by a sexual assault nurse examiner who collected evidence swabs from her body. The victim received a positive drug screen result the next evening through a Novant Patient Portal notification and realized she had been drugged. She and her husband called 911 and the Wilmington Police Department began an investigation.
Investigators say Andrzejewski had filled prescriptions of the drug present in the victim’s drug screen. The sexual assault evidence collection kit was submitted to the North Carolina State Crime Lab Forensic Biology section for analysis and DNA consistent with and matching Andrzejewski was located on the swabs from the victim’s body.
Andrzejewski will be required to register as a sexual offender for 30 years following his release from the Department of Adult Corrections.
