New Hanover County NAACP announces its Souls to the Polls march
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — One of the signs of election season is the New Hanover County NAACP announcing its Souls to the Polls march.
The march will be held on October 20th, the second weekend of early voting.
Supporters can gather at St. Stephens Methodist Church and they will march from the church to Cape Fear Community College’s Health Sciences Building.
Sonya Patrick is the chair of the New Hanover County Black Leadership Caucus.
She said people need to get out and vote to keep officials honest.
“Public officials make decisions that impact our lives and we have to make them accountable,” Patrick said. “We have to unleash our power at the voting polls, early vote and especially this election.”
The Souls to the Polls movement began in Florida in the 1990s to encourage voting.
