New Hanover County Register of Deeds hosts free weddings for Valentine’s Day

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The New Hanover County Register of Deeds celebrated Valentine’s Day this year by helping happy couples tie the knot.

On Friday, eight couples received a wedding ceremony free of charge at the Register of Deeds’ office.

The office hosts ceremonies each year on Valentine’s Day that include a free officiant, marriage certificates, a cake, and a gift bag including gift cards to local restaurants.

This year, couples were also treated to free live music provided by Wilmington Symphony Orchestra Violinist Jessica Landes.

Resister of Deeds Morghan Getty Collins said the annual event is made possible by donations from community businesses—including Nothing Bunt Cakes that provided the wedding cakes, soap bags Buff City Soap, and gift cards provided by Carrabba’s, Texas Roadhouse, Ed Cazador, Mission BBQ, Copper Penny,  the Fort Fisher Aquarium, and more.

“We don’t get to do something like this all the time, so when we do, and we get to have a day like this to really thank the community for everything they do for us, it’s pretty incredible.”

Getty Collins said she’s grateful for all of the community partners that helped make the event possible.
