New Hanover County residents react to the 2024 Presidential Election
Donald Trump won both the popular and electoral votes. That hasn't happened in 20 years.
NEW HANOVER COUNTY (WWAY)–Now that the presidential election is over, declaring Donald Trump as the 47th president of the United States.
“This will truly be the golden age of America,” Donald Trump said.
WWAY drove to Carolina Beach to see how people felt about the victory.
“Go, Trump! We’re here to support you,” exclaimed one resident. “I think he is a great businessman, and I think he’s going to lead this country in the right direction it needs to be.”
Donald Trump won both the popular and electoral votes. It’s something that hasn’t happened in 20 years. However, these Carolina Beach residents say his business ideology will go in the right direction for the economy.
“If he opens up the oil rigs, gets interest rates down, gets people to be able to go to the grocery store and afford food and clothing for their kids, that’s what this country needs,” says another Carolina Beach resident.
Although North Carolina elected a Democratic Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, and Superintendent of Public Education and broke the supermajority in the General Assembly, North Carolinians voted for Trump.
“Having this demented lunatic in charge of the nuclear codes is horrible and poor Ukraine. Ukraine is going to be *expletive*,” a Carolina Beach resident said angrily.
Many people are upset about the loss.
“I want to know what people were thinking. Who voted for him? Do they really expect him to do a thing for him,” a resident questioned.
Kamala Harris is the second major female majority party nominee to lose to Donald Trump. After the race, Harris congratulated him on his win.
“I spoke with president-elect Trump and congratulated him on his victory. We will have a peaceful transfer of power,” Vice President Kamala Harris said.
Residents are curious to know how America will move forward in the future, but they say it’s a step in the right direction.
