NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications for its upcoming Citizens’ Academy, an 11-week program designed to give residents an inside look at local law enforcement operations.

The academy runs every Tuesday from March 10 through May 19 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., with a graduation ceremony scheduled for May 19.

Officials say participants will receive an in-depth look at several divisions within the sheriff’s office, including Crime Scene Investigations, Vice and Narcotics, Patrol, K-9, Detention, Detective and Judicial services.

The Sheriff’s Citizens’ Academy is intended to expose the public to the day-to-day operations of the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office.

The program is free to attend. Class locations will vary depending on the topic being covered. The academy coordinator will provide participants with a weekly itinerary detailing where each session will be held.
