New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office hosts “Popcorn in the Park” event
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office is getting creative with ways to interact with even the youngest of community members.
On Thursday at Long Leaf Park, the sheriff’s office hosted a “Popcorn in the Park” event.
Dozens of parents and their children attended and spoke with law enforcement about what they do to keep New Hanover County safe.
Officials gave out hats, stickers, and of course popcorn.
New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Master Deputy Robert Henderson said this is an idea he’s had for a while and he’s glad it was a success.
“It’s kind of a play on ‘Coffee With a Cop’ but I wanted to bring it out to the park and have popcorn, have engagement with the community and the citizens,” Henderson said. “Talk about stuff going on, see if we can answer any questions that they have.”
This is the second Popcorn in the Park event. Henderson said he hopes to make this a monthly event.
