New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office provided update on Castle Hayne shooting

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office offering new details on a death investigation from a shooting Monday morning off Bowman Drive in Castle Hayne.
According to a press release, when deputies arrived on the scene around 9:00 that morning they found Aurora Rosendo-Ortega, 35, dead of a gunshot wound.
Deputies later found Avelino Jaimes-Acuna and an 18-year-old named Santiago Pacheco-Rosendo with gunshot wounds.
Jaimes-Acuna later died at the hospital.
The sheriff’s office says Rosendo-Ortega and Jaimes-Acuna had been in a relationship and in an apparent act of domestic violence, he broke into the home and murdered her before shooting himself.
Pacheco-Rosendo was shot trying to protect his mother, but he only suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
