New Hanover County Strawberry Farm set to re-open Wednesday

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — It’s getting closer to prime picking for strawberries and one New Hanover County farm is getting a head start on the season.

Lewis Nursery and Farms, Inc. in Murrayville is opening its doors and fields on Wednesday beginning at 9 a.m.. They’ll be open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday going forward.

Lewis Farms is well-known for allowing what they call “you-picking,” meaning you pick your own berries. Right now, the berries aren’t quite ripe enough so they’re hoping to re-offer that come Easter weekend.

The farm also sells a wide range of plants and flowers to officially ring in spring.

Lewis Farms Manger Jackie Lewis said this early start is well awaited. She and her team are excited to welcome new and returning customers.

“We are so excited about opening actually the very first day of Spring. This is probably the earliest we’ve ever opened,” Lewis said.

Lewis Farms will also have its ice cream ready to go on Wednesday. You can get a scoop of either strawberry or one of their many other flavors.
