New Hanover High School Football team rallies for relief efforts
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — In response to the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene, the New Hanover High School football team is stepping up to help those in need.
The team loaded a truck with essential supplies, including bottled water, diapers, cleaning supplies, and other donations from students and teachers.
With many football fields in Western North Carolina destroyed by the flooding, New Hanover High School felt compelled to take action.
Coach Scott Monroe and player Jamari Simpson recall the support they received after Hurricane Florence and want to return the favor.
Coach Monroe shared, “Back in Florence, when we couldn’t get in and out, finally the roads opened up, and teams from the western part of the state drove down and brought stuff with them. So now it’s time to pay it forward and let people know that people do care about each other.”
Jamari added, “I know there are a lot of football teams that can’t have their season anymore. I can’t imagine that feeling, especially for the seniors who don’t get to finish their high school career.”
The team is planning to drive the trailer filled with donations out Friday evening around 7 PM.
