New Hanover High School student-athlete dead

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — According to New Hanover County School’s spokeswoman Valita Quattlebaum, student-athlete Rachone Johnson died on Saturday night.

Wilmington Police said at around 8:35 p.m. they responded to a call on King Street and found Johnson dead when they arrived.

This morning the NHHS Football Twitter account tweeted out “Sad, sad day for NHHS football. RIP #17 More details to come later.”

Police said they do not believe Johnson’s death to be suspicious, but they are continuing to investigate.
