New Hanover High School’s baseball team heads to State Championships
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Wildcats are off to fight for the title of State Champions.
Parents, grandparents and fans gathered in the parking lot of Legion Stadium on Friday morning to cheer on the baseball team from New Hanover High School. The music was loud, but the cheers were louder.
The boys posed for pictures and huddled up for a group prayer before loading onto the bus. They left for Raleigh with a police escort from the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office.
Former New Hanover High School principal, Robert Moore, says he once was on the team as shortstop. Moore hopes that since the team has so many young players, they will win this year and come back with a lot of experience to go win again next year.
Chad Skipper, a father and former pitcher for the Wildcats, has a son who is a senior and also a pitcher on the team. Skipper says the boys on this year’s team are extremely close and that they’ve worked very hard to get where they are.
NC State is the host of the State Championship tournament this weekend.
The Wildcats take the baseball field at 5 p.m. against Asheville’s T.C. Robertson High School.
