New Hanover hosts 1st annual Wildcat Volleyball Jamboree

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY) — With the high school fall sports starting just days from now, a few area teams competed in a first of its kind event to prepare for the regular season.
New Hanover hosted the Wildcat Volleyball Jamboree on Wednesday where they along with other schools such as North Brunswick and Pender took part in a preseason tournament.
Wildcat Head Coach Bill Carter says those taking part were excited to compete in the inaugural event.
He says game action serves as a great way to prepare teams as opposed to normal practices.
“We’ve been participating in summer league scrimmages all summer, but pretty much wearing T-shirts and it’s a scrimmage,” Carter said. “This is a little more formal environment. Putting the uniforms on, keeping score. Our region officials are using this as a training event also. I just think it brings a little more formal environment, gets the girls a little more competitive, which is always a big help for the season.”
Carter says he hopes to keep the event going in the future and draw even more schools to take part.
