New information announced about North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher

FORT FISHER, NC (WWAY) — We’re learning more about a 65 million dollar renovation and expansion the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher is set to undergo this fall.
The first major upgrade to the facility in more than two decades will construct the state’s largest shark habitat, a new interactive touch pool, a live coral reef habitat, and more.
A spokeswoman for the aquarium says all areas will be closed to the public for about 30 months. The aquarium is finalizing staffing plans for that period. While they don’t anticipate laying off any full-time staff, they will likely not retain temporary employees.
The aquarium is working with its sister facilities at Pine Knoll Shores and Roanoke Island to relocate some of the animals, but most will remain at the aquarium.
