New microchip scanning station allows access to lost animal information
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — If you come across a lost or stray animal in Wilmington, there’s now an easier way to help connect it with its owner.
Located outside the Wilmington Police Headquarters on Bess Street, you’ll find a new microchip scanning station set up by Heidi’s Hope for Homeless Animals.
The station is simple to use. Just release the scanner from its box and scan the animal to see if it has a microchip. If a chip is found, the station provides step-by-step instructions on how to proceed and contact information for local shelters.
If no chip is found, it offers guidance on the next steps to take.
Heidi’s Hope founder and CEO Trish Arnold believes the scanner will play a crucial role in quickly reuniting pets with their families.
“It’s estimated that one in three pets will go missing in their lifetime, and this is a good opportunity to help quickly reunite pets with their owners.”
Arnold adds that the nonprofit has additional stations ready to be deployed and is currently working on identifying the best locations to place them, ensuring they’ll have the most impact.
