New opportunities for Cape Fear Community College students
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — In the Cape Fear there is a growing demand for surveyors. One local business partnered with the Cape Fear Community College to address the need.
McKim & Creed, an engineering and surveying company, is collaborating with Cape Fear Community College to offer courses which will equip students with the knowledge and skills of becoming a surveyor.
A surveyor is a part of the construction life cycle, they are the first people in and the last people out. Essentially, they are professional measurers. They deal a lot with topography and they can measure using remote sensing.
Ernie Bruss a project manager with the company says there is plenty of room for growth within this field, with the rapid growth and development in the area
“Here at McKim & Creed there’s tons of room for growth, our current and our last president of surveying or geomatics, both of them started off at entry level positions,” Bruss said.
Bruss adds coming out of a program, one can expect to make $40-50,000 a year to start, and you can increase to six figures. However, it all depends on your willingness to grow and learn.
CFCC is also hosting a One-Stop Enrollment Night, designed to simplify the enrollment process for prospective students.
