New owner of Independence Mall shares plan for future

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — We’re hearing from the new owner of Independence Mall in Wilmington.

Last month, Florida-based development company 4th Dimension Properties acquired the mall.

4th Dimension Properties has previously bought and renovated other malls across the country.

On Tuesday, WWAY spoke with owner Felix Reznick.

“I love the property, love the location, been to Wilmington a couple of times. Love the mix of tenants there,” Reznick said. “I think there’s a lot I can do there.”

Reznick says he wants to make independence a regional destination.

“You know, I don’t see malls as centers where you sell clothing, shoes, and maybe some food,” he said. “There’s a lot more entertainment, there’s a lot more involvement. What I like is to make the place ‘sticky,’ meaning they stay there longer.”

Reznick says the company loves to support new local businesses.

“We’re all about incubating new businesses and we’ve had a number of success stories,” Reznick said. “Just knock on the manager’s door, make a deal, take a space, and see what happens.”
