New River Air Station dedicates Marines’ largest hangar

MARINE CORPS AIR STATION NEW RIVER, NC (AP) — The US Marine Corps is holding a ceremony in eastern North Carolina to dedicate its newest – and largest – hangar.

A news release from the Marines says the “mega hangar”” will be dedicated Friday afternoon at Marine Corps Air Station New River.

The massive structure is 1,300 feet long – or a quarter of a mile. It offers more than 150,000 square feet of hangar space and nearly 100,000 square feet of office space.

It’s home to four of New River’s MV-22B Osprey squadrons and will accommodate an increase in squadrons and aircraft at the station.

The project that cost $154 million also includes a parking garage, aircraft taxiways and parking aprons.
