New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office warns of bail money scam

The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office has a scam warning.

A victim was contacted by a man claiming to be with the sheriff’s office and requesting wired bail money for the arrest of the victim’s employee. The money was claimed immediately.

The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office is not involved with the attempt to collect or request bail money. These transactions are handled directly by the person arrested or through a bail bond company.
