Work on a joint project with Brunswick County and Lower Cape Fear Water and Sewer Authority (LCFWASA) to meet the region’s growing water needs is scheduled to start in November, according to Cape Fear Public Utility Authority.
The Cape Fear Public Utility Authority says overnight work by crews this weekend prevented the rupture of a major Lower Cape Fear Water and Sewer Authority raw water supply main near the New Hanover County-Pender County line.
The commission will consider all public comments received in making its final determination on whether to issue a certificate for the water transfer.
Mike Brown, CFPUA Board chairman, will provide two daily updates—one morning and one afternoon—with information on activity surrounding GenX. Updates will be provided each weekday.
The NC Department of Environmental Quality said late this afternoon its staff will begin sampling the water in the Cape Fear River today for GenX, which has many people worried about the safety of the area's drinking water.
Following an assessment of damage to a water main, Brunswick County Public Utility residential customers in all areas of the County should continue to follow mandatory water conservation requirements, though commercial car washes can resume operations.
Residents in all areas of Brunswick County are required to take steps to decrease water usage effective immediately following damage to a water line, according to a news release from the county.
