NFL Star Alex Highsmith to receive key to the city next week

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The City of Wilmington will present NFL star and Wilmington native Alex Highsmith with a Key to the City next week.
Since being drafted in 2020 by the Pittsburgh Steelers, Alex has remained focused on giving back to his hometown.
He established the Alex Highsmith Family Foundation in 2020, dedicated to the advancement and enrichment of underserved youth, providing exciting opportunities for growth and connection, and fostering the awareness of youth health and wellness throughout Wilmington, Pittsburgh, and Charlotte.
In just a few years, the Foundation has helped thousands of children through annual youth football camps, back-to-school drives, winter coat giveaways, annual academic scholarships, and support for Ashley High School Athletics.
He will be given the Key to the City on Friday, April 4th, at the Smoke on the Water. It will during the Signature, the 4th annual Kentucky Derby-Style event.
