NHC Board of Elections adds 3 early voting locations following public pushback
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — After several weeks of public pushback, the New Hanover County Board of Elections voted unanimously to increase the number of early voting sites for this fall’s municipal elections to four.
Last month, the Board reduced the number of early voting sites to just one, the Northeast Regional Library on Military Cutoff Road.
The board cited budget cuts from the county for the reduction.
But both county commissioners and Wilmington City Council, along with residents, voiced concerns about the impact having just one early voting site would have on the elections.
Board member Derrick Miller said it’s great to know just how important early voting is to so many county residents.
“I’m really happy to see that we’ve established that the citizens of New Hanover County expect multiple sites throughout the county for early voting,” Miller said. “And that we’ve heard from elected officials from both parties that they agree. So I think that we’ve established that multiple sites and early voting are extremely important for New Hanover County.”
The three new sites will be the McLeod Building at Cape Fear Community College, the New Hanover County Senior Resource Center, and the Carolina Beach Town Hall.
Each site will be open for the final week and weekend of the early voting period, from 8-5 Monday-Friday and 12-5 Saturday and Sunday.
