NHCS board member to move to rescind superintendent’s contract next month
NEW HANOVER COUNTY (WWAY) — A brief but seemingly unexpected announcement on Tuesday at the New Hanover County Board of Education agenda briefing.
During the board’s agenda briefing, Pat Bradford made an announcement regarding a motion she intends to make at the board’s next regular meeting.
“Mr. Chairman, I notified the board today of my intent to make a motion at our next meeting rescind the motion to approve the three year extension of employment contract for Superintendent Charles Foust,” said Bradford during the meeting.
The board renewed Dr. Charles Foust’s contract in August. The contract outlines Foust’s employment as the district’s superintendent through 2027.
Board Member Stephanie Kraybill was the only member who verbally expressed shock at Bradford’s announcement on Tuesday.
“When did you sen-? This is what I’m talking about. We can’t keep bringing this crap up, pulling it out of our tails,” said Kraybill.
Kraybill was ruled out of order by Board Chair Pete Wildeboer.
Bradford’s comment was made during the discussion regarding an update on the Career Readiness Academy at Mosley.
It was announced in November Mosley would close after this school year. An announcement that caught many people including school board members by surprise.
Many raised concern that Dr. Foust and other district leaders discussed this behind closed doors. After much backlash the district announced Mosley would remain open last week.
The school board’s next meeting is on February 6.
