NHCS affected with data breach

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — New Hanover County Schools says they were told by state officials about a student data breach.
The State Department of Public Instruction says the data breach involves PowerSchool, the company that manages the state’s Student Information System data.
PowerSchool serves as the official SIS system for all public and charter schools across North Carolina.
The incident was caused by administrative tools to which only PowerSchool has access, and no actions by the department or individual schools could have prevented this incident.
New Hanover County Schools is actively working with the Department of Public Instruction and PowerSchool to assess the full extent of this nationwide breach and identify any necessary steps to safeguard the community’s information.
