NHCS: Lightning causes damage at Hoggard

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The storms that have rolled through the Wilmington area so far today caused damage at New Hanover County school.

According to the school district lightning knocked out the intercom and bell systems at Hoggard High School this morning. The fire department has inspected the building, and there are no injuries, the district said via Twitter.

The stadium scoreboard is also not working. Hoggard is set to host its annual crosstown rivalry with New Hanover High School tonight.

A district spokeswoman tells WWAY that the damage should not affect the school day.

Early this afternoon, the district tweeted that the scoreboard had been fixed and is ready for the game.
