Nippy’s Soul Food “paying it forward” to help those less fortunate

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — For many, the holidays are the season of giving.

One Wilmington restaurant has a new way to make it easier for its customers to give back to others less fortunate.

About 2 weeks ago, Nippy’s Soul Food restaurant on Carolina Beach Road started allowing its customers to “pay it forward.”

This means customers can pay for food orders for those unable to pay for a hot meal.

Customers can either pay for a specific meal from the menu or an all-you-can-eat buffet order.

Restaurant owner Marsha Corbett said she’s pleased with how customers have embraced this opportunity to help the homeless or those unable to pay for themselves.

“And especially when they choose a buffet ticket,” Corbett said. “I mean, they just sit and eat and you can just see and they’re very grateful in thanking us, you know and I just thank the community for coming in and helping out and making this happen.”

Due to the positive response, Corbett told WWAY that the restaurant plans to continue this initiative so customers can continue helping to feed those with lesser means year-round.
