No cause determined in Oak Island condo fire
OAK ISLAND, NC (WWAY) — Fire investigators say they’ve been unable to determine what started a fire at a condominium complex Tuesday, but they believe it was not a crime.
A spokesman with the town says three units in building “D” of the Dutchman Creek Villas were destroyed. There are 12 units in that building; six other units suffered water and/or smoke damage. Residents affected by the fire are in temporary housing and being helped by the American Red Cross.
No residents were hurt; one firefighter was transported to Dosher Memorial Hospital and transferred to New Hanover Regional Medical Center. The identity of that person and the injuries sustained are unknown.
Officials say due to the intensity of the fire and the damage to the unit where the fire started, no cause was determined but there’s no indication of the fire being suspicious.
