No charges yet in Columbus County fatal crash, investigation is ongoing

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — There have been no charges filed yet in the fatal deputy involved crash that killed Robert Brownlee last week. Highway Patrol said Deputy Ryan Gibson entered a curve and drifted left of the center into the path of Brownlee’s GMC pickup truck.

District Attorney Jon David said that he was notified less than an hour after the crash and he sent two people from his office to the scene. David said his office is working very closely with Highway Patrol to review the accident at this time.
