No plans set 1 year after King’s Beachwear burned down in Wrightsville Beach

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Nearly one year after King’s Beachwear burned down in Wrightsville Beach, there is still no plan for the now vacant space.

Late last April, a fire erupted through the store right next to Johnnie Mercer’s Pier.

The cause was never determined due to the damage from the blaze.

Wrightsville Beach Town Manager Tim Owens said there was a mixed-use permit approved for the space years ago, but nothing has been done with it. He said it was initially proposed for both commercial and residential developments.

Owens said the proposal is dormant at this time and there are no future plans to discuss. He said what happens with that vacant space is up to the property owners.
