NOAA weather transmitter back up, but not at full power

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) – The NOAA weather radio transmitter in Winnabow is once again working.

According to the National Weather Service, crews just got back from the tower late this afternoon.  Last week, there were concerns it could take between 4-6 months to get the transmitter repaired.

The National Weather Service says they are not transmitting at full power, which means people who live on the very edge of the service area might still have some issues picking up weather alerts. It could be a couple of months before the transmitter is at full power.

The Winnabow Transmitter covers Bladen, Brunswick, Pender, New Hanover, and Columbus Counties.
