North Brunswick football coach set to retire
LELAND, NC (WWAY) — Garry Bishop took over the football program at North Brunswick High School in 1993 replacing Gary Baldwin. On Friday Bishop announced that he’ll be stepping down after more than two decades of roaming the sideline in Leland. “It’s not really stepping aside as the football coach, I am retiring from teaching and that comes with it,” Bishop told WWAY. “I have my years in. I put in 30 years, the time feels right, so walking away from my teaching job I feel like it would be in the best interest of the school to bring another football coach in.” Bishop will continue to serve as the head track and field coach at North Brunswick.
North Brunswick athletics director Randy Fennell hopes to have a new head football coach hired by early to mid-April.
