North Brunswick High School holds first annual vocational rehabilitation day

BRUNSWICK COUNTY (WWAY) — North Brunswick High School held a new event on Wednesday to show students what is in store for them after graduation.

The inaugural “Rising Stars: Vocational Rehabilitation Day For Students With Disabilities” gave such students more insight into what careers are available to them.

Teachers and other staff at North Brunswick spoke to the students, sharing their stories and showcasing some of the jobs they’ve worked throughout their lives.

Dr. Yushonda Midgette is a teacher and the event’s organizer. She explained that she wants her students to know that they can pursue whatever career, or job, that they want.

“Wow, that’s me. I can relate to their story,” is what she wants students to take away. “I want them to relate to the speaker’s story and to be able to say: I can do it. If they can do it, I can do it.”

2023 marks the fiftieth anniversary of the passing of the Rehabilitation Act, which prevents discrimination based on disability.
