North Carolina Azalea Festival leader excited about new chapter with the organization

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Melissa Lasarsky is the new executive director of The North Carolina Azalea Festival. Festival leaders said she brings both a personal connection to the region and professional experience in leading large-scale events. She joined the organization, bringing more than 18 years of experience in marketing, communications, and large-scale event leadership.

Lasarsky says the festival is already a well-established tradition, and she sees this moment as an opportunity to advance the mission as the festival enters its 79th year. “It’s such a milestone for a community to come together and to be able to say for 80 years we’ve gathered together, and through all the things that has happened in our world, it’s something that has survived,” she said.

Planning for the 80th year is already underway, and Lasarsky says she looks forward to helping shape the next 80 years.
