North Carolina Connections Academy holds information session

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The North Carolina Connections Academy is a virtual public school aimed to individualize the way students learn. An information session for Wilmington parents and students was held Tuesday night.

It is a completely free public school and follows the state curriculum, the only difference is it is online giving students more one-on-one time.

Math teacher Nathalie Morse led the session breaking down the non-traditional learning environment and how it can be a great fit for students of all kind.

Whether your child is shy, anxious, has attention issues, or excels in all subjects, Morse says this school gives students the opportunity to learn on their own time.

“In a brick and mortar you have a classroom of 30 kids,” Morse said. “And the teachers are working with and trying to meet the needs of all the kids. With an online system it’s more individualized in a sense. So you have a student that needs extra time to do something. They can take that extra time.”

Morse adds students have more flexibility overall to focus on their strengths and weaknesses. The school also offers field trips and online clubs so that students get to interact with each other.
