North Carolina Gov. McCrory officially re-election candidate
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) – North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory has officially filed his papers to be on the Republican primary ballot in March.
McCrory campaign manager Russell Peck on Friday gave the State Board of Elections the governor’s candidacy notice. The Republican incumbent didn’t come along.
Democratic candidate Roy Cooper also had an aide file for him earlier this week.
Republican gubernatorial candidate Robert Brawley filed in person Wednesday. Another Democratic hopeful – Ken Spaulding – plans to do the same Monday.
Another notable candidate filing Friday was Democrat Brownie Futrell for a coastal state Senate district. Futrell was the publisher of the Washington Daily News for 32 years. The newspaper won a Pulitzer Prize during his tenure.
