RALEIGH, NC (WWAY) — Information technology job postings in North Carolina increased significantly over the past year, outpacing national growth, according to new data released Tuesday by the NC Technology Association.

The report shows IT job postings in the state rose 17 percent compared to March 2025 and 15.9 percent from February 2026. That growth exceeds the national increase of 5.6 percent year over year and 11.5 percent month over month.

Charlotte recorded the highest number of job postings among the state’s metropolitan areas, while software developer positions remained the most in-demand role, according to the association’s IT Job Trends Dashboard.

The report also highlights ongoing workforce challenges, citing a University of North Carolina System workforce alignment study that found gaps in key fields including health care, engineering and education. Officials say shortages in engineering and education could have implications for the state’s technology sector growth.

State leaders have made efforts to address those gaps, including a $125 million investment approved by the North Carolina General Assembly in 2021 to expand engineering programs. That funding has contributed to a 22 percent increase in students pursuing bachelor’s degrees in engineering over the past five years, according to the report.

NC TECH officials say collaboration among colleges, universities and industry partners will be important in meeting future workforce demands.
