North Carolina middle schooler dies after being hit by train

MONROE, N.C. (AP) — Police in North Carolina say a middle-school student is dead after he was hit by a train.

Monroe police told local news sources they found the body of 13-year-old Carlos Rodriguez on the railroad tracks Tuesday night. Investigators say the teen was not at a railroad crossing when he was hit.

According to the city of Monroe, Rodriguez left his home Tuesday afternoon and was reported missing. He was a student at Monroe Middle School.

Monroe police say they will interview potential witnesses to determine what happened.

Union County Public Schools have made extra support available for students as well as staff and have extra counselors available.
